The Lord’s Table

The table’s set and all are here
Who know and love the Lord.
O Holy Spirit draw us now
To Christ in one accord.
Away from worldly thoughts and cares
To thoughts of love divine;
As we remember Christ our Lord
Through symbols: bread and wine.
We now begin to break the bread
Which must be held and torn,
Just as our Lord was held and bruised
And crowned with twisted thorn.
O how they mocked and spat on Him
And all without a cause;
Then led Him to Golgotha’s hill
And nailed Him to a cross.
The poured out wine is like the blood
That He so freely shed;
For when those nails pierced Jesus’ flesh
It was for us He bled.
And as the wine is shared around
It speaks of sprinkled blood;
Of Christ the Lamb, yet great High Priest
Who brought us back to God.
‘And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them saying,
This is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.
Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying,
This cup is the new covenant in My blood which is shed for you.’
[Luke 22: 19-20]
