O blessed Lord who in Your love
Have visited this world,
To teach us by Your ministry
And save us by Your blood.
And early in Your earthly walk
You for baptism came,
To be obedient to God’s will
You counted it no shame.

For God confirmed this blessed step
By speaking from above,
As on Yourself the Spirit fell
Descending as a dove.
Dear Lord You showed us what to do
We’ll follow in Your steps,
And like the countless other saints
Will greet the watery depths.

For as we sink beneath the waves
We die as in Christ’s death,
And when we surface we shall live
For Christ, and nothing less.
And by this holy ordinance
We do most clearly show,
That we are Jesus’ followers
And want the world to know…
And want the world to know!

‘It came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove. Then a voice came from heaven, ‘You are my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’
[Mark 1:9-11]
