As Christ Loves Us

To try to love as Christ loves us
Brings peace within our soul
Though self must often be the cost
His love still makes us whole.
To love when love is hard to find
Amidst our pain and strife
That is the love that God has given
And in that love there’s life.

At times, resisting Jesus’ way
Is what we want to do
Self pity and resentment call
Indulgence is their cue.
Yet God alone can touch the heart
And clear our soul’s weak eyes
By grace we place our hand in His
In love He bids us rise.

For He is merciful to us
Forgiving every day
All we have done and left undone
And showing us His way.
Help us O Lord to look to You
And not to selfish pride
When anger hurt and spite would call
Then may Your love abide.

‘A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another;
even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
By this all men will know that you are my disciples,
if you have love for one another.’
[John 13:34-35]
