Persevering Prayer

Persevering Prayer

I waited for the Lord my God
In persevering prayer,
Until the Lord in His good time
Replied by drawing near.
My feeble words were meaningless
Before the Living God,
Who knew me better than I did
And all that I required.

A godly fear swept over me
My sin intensified,
I felt Christ’s love protecting me
Through Him I’m justified.
So many things He taught me there
In faith my view was clear,
All worries flee like autumn leaves
In prayer when Christ draws near.

How wonderful the works of God
Wrought through His precious Son,
Who left the glory of His throne
To suffer for my sin.
“O Lord, my fears and doubts have gone
Just one thing I desire…
Your help to overcome the flesh
And persevere in prayer.”

“Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation.
The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
[Matthew 26:41]
